A suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowd of Taliban, security forces and civilians celebrating an unprecedented cease-fire in Afghanistan on Saturday, killing at least 20 people.
A spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar province, Ayatollah Khojiani, said at least 16 people were injured in the attack in the region of Rodat in the eastern state of the country, according to AFP.
The attack came as Afghan President Ashraf Ghani unilaterally announced a week-long ceasefire with the Taliban as the Eid al-Fitr truce continued.
The President also called on the rebel movement to extend the cease-fire, which it announced for its part for three days, and expire on Sunday.
The cessation of hostilities on Friday and Saturday allowed for unprecedented scenes in Afghanistan between the security forces and the Taliban, as both sides exchanged hugs and took pictures together.
