A US State Department official said the United States was working with Iranian oil-importing countries to persuade the largest number of them to stop their imports by November 4.
He stressed the willingness of the United States to work with countries that reduce imports of Iranian oil on a case-by-case basis.
US Energy Secretary Rick Perry said on Thursday he was confident Saudi Arabia and Russia could increase their crude oil output to stabilize the oil market and compensate for the loss of supply caused by renewed US sanctions on Iran.
Perry was speaking to reporters at the World Gas Conference in Washington.
A senior State Department official said yesterday that oil-buying countries from Iran must prepare to stop all imports from November, with the United States re-imposing sanctions on Tehran.
"We will isolate Iran's funding flows, and we look forward to highlighting the overall Iranian misconduct in the region," the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told reporters.
He added that the United States does not plan to make any exceptions on oil imports from Iran, according to "Reuters."
The US State Department official also revealed that an American delegation would head to the Middle East next week to encourage Gulf oil producers to secure global oil supplies, with Iran being cut off from the market in November.
US sanctions have begun to put pressure on Iranian oil shipments as tanker and container operators prepare to end business with Iran ahead of US sanctions on Iran's oil sector in November.
This comes as the series of withdrawal of giant companies from Iran continues, including Lukoil, the Russian oil company, Total, France, Danish Maersk, BP and ENI, which signed an agreement to study oil and gas fields with Iran.
