US Ambassador Dennis Xia said at a World Trade Organization (WTO) meeting on Wednesday that the WTO was not the place to settle trade disputes between China and the United States.

The United States has said it plans to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods worth 200 billion dollars.

China has accused the United States of "bullying," saying it will file a complaint against Washington at the World Trade Organization.

The Chinese ambassador pointed out that China's accountability can not be postponed due to the large and growing role of Beijing in international trade, and the great harm it causes to its trading partners.

During the two-year review of China's World Trade Organization (WTO), China said that the organization does not currently provide all the necessary tools to counter Beijing's practices.

The United States has demanded a change in the WTO dispute system, amid speculation that Washington may withdraw from the organization.

Xia pointed out that the best solution to these conflicts is for China to take the initiative to adopt open and market-oriented policies fully and effectively
