(Reuters) - Protests in the southern Iraqi province of Basra rose on Sunday as protesters blocked the road to the provincial council building.
A source familiar with the twilight of the news that the protesters cut the road to the building of the provincial council, and threatened to break into it.
He added that "a delegation of protesters presented his demands to manage the port of Safwan border," threatening that "in the event of failure to implement their demands, they will break into it."
The source pointed to "the evacuation of foreign workers in the water injection plant in Karma Ali and the closure of the first pump and the second and the inability of the Iraqi staff of Basra Oil Company and retirees access to the site."

The source said that "the security forces destroyed the tents of sit-ins in front of the building of the province, as well as the arrest of a number of activists protestors."
On Saturday evening, Iraqi security authorities imposed a total curfew in Basra, Najaf and Karbala after the protests accompanied violence against demonstrators.
Thousands of people took to the streets of Basra, Diwaniyah, Dhi Qar, Maysan, Najaf, Karbala, Wasit and Babel to protest against demands to improve the poor service and living conditions and provide job opportunities for the unemployed.
The ongoing demonstrations have been accompanied by armed clashes and attempts to break into partisan and government headquarters in Najaf, Maysan, Babel and Karbala.
The demonstrators succeeded in storming the building of the province in Karbala after the siege lasted for several hours.
At least eight demonstrators were killed and at least eight others wounded when security forces opened fire on protesters trying to storm the compound in central Najaf.
Local authorities in Najaf have cut off electricity from the province in an attempt to control the "angry" popular protests.
