Washington shrugs off China: We will focus more on EU talks

    2018/07/26 18:48

(Encyclopedia of this Day News | Iraq News ) - Direct: US Treasury Secretary , "said Stephen Manoucan" The United States will focus first on resolving the issue of steel and aluminum tariffs with the EU, so there are no fees exchanged between the two parties.

"It is likely that a broader trade agreement between the United States and the European Union will be reached in stages next year," Menuchin said in comments to CNBC on Thursday.

The US president has reached a trade deal with the European Union that would bring down tariffs between the two sides and resolve the problem of retaliation against steel and aluminum, as the talks continue.

Menuchin noted that the US administration will focus more with its European partners, despite the continued quiet talks with China on trade.

"If they want to make serious adjustments like the EU did yesterday, we will negotiate with them at any time," the Treasury Secretary told China.

On Monday, US President Donald Trump and the European Commission president said officials in Washington and Brussels had reached a deal in principle and planned to move forward "to turn it into a real deal."

The United States imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports by about 25 percent and 10 percent respectively in March and made the decision on the European Union at the beginning of June to return Brussels with retaliatory tariffs.
