    US crude inventories fell last week as refineries increased production and imports fell, while gasoline stocks fell and distillate stocks rose, data from the US Petroleum Institute showed on Wednesday.
    Crude stocks fell 5.2 million barrels over the week ending Aug. 17 to 405.6 million, while analysts expected inventories to fall 1.5 million barrels. The Petroleum Institute said crude stocks at the delivery point in Kashing, Oklahoma increased 195 thousand barrels.
    According to API figures, crude consumption at refineries increased 171,000 bpd.
    Gasoline inventories fell 930,000 barrels, while analysts in the Reuters poll forecast a drop of 488,000 barrels.
    Distillate stocks, including diesel and heating oil, increased 1.8 million barrels from expectations of 1.5 million barrels.
    US crude imports fell 483,000 bpd last week to 8.4 million bpd.
    Oil rose to a one-week high on Tuesday, ahead of an expected drop in US crude inventories at $ 72.61 a barrel, its highest since August 14.
