The MP for the alliance of Abbas Abbas Aliawi, on Tuesday, that the House of Representatives will take a number of punitive measures against deputies absent during the voting session on the selection of the President of the Republic.
"The presidency of the parliament will take its punitive measures against the absentees from the voting session for the election of the President of the Republic," Aliawi said in a statement to Al-Maaloumah, adding that "among these measures will be a fine of 500 thousand dinars for the one absent from the session."
He added that "the Presidency of the Parliament will work on the imposition of sanctions as stipulated by the rules of procedure of the House of Representatives," explaining that "the abstention of a number of deputies to attend today's meeting happened because of the agreement of the Kurdish forces to put one candidate to take over the presidency of the Republic."
The President of the House of Representatives Mohamed Halboussi had directed, on Tuesday, the announcement of the names of deputies absent from the meeting today for the election of the new President.
