US ambassador to the United Nations, Nicky Healy, announced an agreement between Israel, Syria and the United Nations on reopening the Quneitra crossing on the Golan Heights on Monday.
"The opening of the crossing will allow UN peacekeepers to step up their efforts to prevent hostilities in the Golan Heights," Hilli said in a statement read by Al-Nour News.
The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) monitors the situation in a demilitarized zone established in 1974 between the Israeli-occupied Golan and the Syrian territory, but the peace-keeping mission has been disrupted by the civil war in Syria.
Israel occupied the Golan Heights in the 1967 Middle East war and fought Syria again on the strategic plateau in the 1973 conflict.
"We look forward to both Israel and Syria allowing UN peacekeepers to enter and provide them with guarantees of their safety," he said, urging Syria to "take the necessary steps so that UNDOF can deploy and monitor safely and effectively without interference."
Military police from Russia, the main ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, patrol the Syrian side of Quneitra.
