said Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, on Sunday that the US side told the government to visit Trump, stressing that the government is required to be an official visit schedule and specific. 

"The American side told us about Trump's visit and our commitment that the visit should be an official one with a specific agenda," Abdul-Mahdi said in a speech at the weekly conference. 

"We met with the US ambassador and praised the balanced Iraqi position on Trump's visit to Iraq," he said.

US President Donald Trump arrived at the military base of Ain al-Assad on Wednesday for a surprise visit, prompting angry political and popular reactions. Abdul-Mahdi said the US authorities had informed the Iraqi authorities of the visit, Trump invited Abdul Mahdi to visit Washington.
