US President Donald Trump said he had asked China to immediately abolish all tariffs on agricultural products imported from the United States.

"He made this request because trade talks between the two countries are going well and he did not charge a 25 percent tariff on Chinese goods on Friday, as was previously planned," Trump said on Twitter.

"China has been asked to immediately abolish all tariffs on our agricultural products (including beef, pork, etc.) based on the fact that we are in good trade talks," Trump said.

He noted that "customs duties on Chinese goods have not been raised to 25 percent from 10 percent on March 1 as previously planned."

"This is very important for our great farmers, for me."

Trump announced last week that his country would delay the increase of tariffs on Chinese exports worth more than 200 billion dollars previously planned after achieving "significant progress" in trade negotiations between the two countries.

He revealed his intention to hold a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping at his resort in Maralago, Florida, for a final agreement.
