US Defense Secretary Patrick Chanahan agreed on Monday to use $ 1 billion of his budget to build the wall along the border with Mexico.
"Today, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Chanahan, the commander of the US Army Engineering Corps, was commissioned to start the $ 1 billion planning and implementation of the program and support the Department of Homeland Security, the Customs Guard and the Border Guard," the statement said.
The funds will be used to build a 91-kilometer-long section of the wall on the southern United States border, improve roads and install lighting in the cities of Yuma, Arizona and El Paso, Texas.
US media reported that this is the first billion dollars allocated at the request of President Trump to build the wall. Trump's management has previously announced its intention to allocate an additional $ 1.5 billion to this construction later on.
President Trump earlier announced a state of emergency on the South American border so that he could use some $ 6.4 billion initially earmarked for other purposes to complete the construction of the wall along the border with Mexico by circumventing Congress, Approve all budget expenditures. The move was challenged in US courts.
