BAGHDAD (AFP) - A senior Saudi delegation headed by Majid al-Kasabi, the minister of trade and investment, arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday to attend the second session of the Iraqi-Saudi Coordination Council, during which he will meet the Iraqi president, prime minister and parliament.

The spokesman for the Iraqi Foreign Ministry Ahmad al-Sahaf said in a press statement that the visit of the Saudi delegation to Baghdad comes within the framework of joint coordination between the two countries at all levels, especially as relations with Saudi Arabia is important in reflecting on the interests of the two brotherly peoples, pointing out that "Saudi Arabia can play A role in the stage of investment and reconstruction in Iraq, and cooperation with multiple economic circles, as he put it.
The first session of the Coordinating Council was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in October 2017 under the patronage of King Salman bin Abdul Aziz and former Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi.
During the visit, the two sides are expected to sign a number of important agreements and launch a number of projects in several fields, especially the economic and trade aspects.

The delegation includes Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan, Minister of Culture, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdul Rahman al-Fadhli, Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Khaled al-Falih, Minister of Education Hamad al-Sheikh, Minister of Information Thabir al-Shabana, Director of the General Authority of Customs, Abdul Aziz Al-Abdul Karim, Deputy Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, Rameh Al-Rumaih, Chairman of the Public Transport Authority and Abdul Rahman Al Harbi, Governor of the General Authority for Foreign Trade.
The Saudi ambassador in Baghdad revealed in previous statements on the opening of Arar border crossing with Iraq in June, after Saudi Arabia pledged to build a full Iraqi port and equipped with all the requirements of any port, infrastructure, office equipment and technical testing devices.
Shammari stressed that the border port with Iraq will contain the largest commercial exchange between the two countries, and will be on the Saudi side.
"There is no doubt that with the opening of the port, all the goods imported by Iraqi traders from Saudi Arabia will cost less, instead of entering through neighboring countries will be the entry of these goods directly, as will be reflected on the economic movement inside Iraq.
