    RODAO, Erbil -

Russia on Thursday urged foreign countries not to restrict their economic ties with Iran, saying they would continue building a nuclear power plant in the country's last city of Bushehr.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Moscow will continue to work on converting the uranium enrichment project in Fordo (in the Iranian province of Qom), as well as in building the nuclear power plant in Bushehr.

The statement added that Russia "understands" Iran's decision to stop some of its commitments in the nuclear agreement, criticizing the American steps towards the agreement with Tehran.

The statement added that "Washington not only withdrew from the nuclear agreement last year, in violation of the UN resolution, but also applied unilateral restrictions against Iran."

He also criticized "Washington's attempt to prevent other countries from establishing normal economic relations with Tehran, through political pressure," adding:

The statement called on all States parties to the Agreement to fulfill their obligations and not to push Iran further away from fulfilling its obligations under the Agreement.

He also urged foreign countries (unspecified) not to restrict their economic relations with Iran, including the energy trade.

He referred to the importance of the trade exchange system (INSTEX), which was established by the European parties in the nuclear agreement.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump imposed new sanctions on Iran, targeting its export revenues from industrial minerals.

Trump's decision came hours after Iran announced the suspension of some of its commitments under the nuclear deal and threatened additional measures within 60 days if other countries did not meet their obligations.

On Wednesday, one year after the announcement of the withdrawal of his country from the nuclear agreement signed in 2015 between Iran and the five permanent members of the Security Council (the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany).

The agreement stipulates Tehran's commitment to abandon, at least 10 years, vital parts of its nuclear program, with the aim of preventing it from acquiring the capability to develop nuclear weapons in return for lifting sanctions.
Since the US withdrawal, Tehran has refused to negotiate a new agreement, especially as other parties have repeatedly declared their commitment to the agreement.2019/05/10 08:50

Moscow strongly condemns new US sanctions on Iran Russia strongly condemned the new US sanctions on Iran and called on all parties to dialogue in order to salvage the agreement on Iran's nuclear program. "The United States has just imposed a new package of sanctions aimed at the metal industry in Iran, we strongly condemn this move," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. She added that because of the "importance" of current developments, Russia calls on Iran and other concerned countries to meet to "identify ways of normalizing the situation." Moscow said it "understands" Tehran's decision to suspend the implementation of some of its commitments under US sanctions, but urged Iran "to refrain from further actions that limit the fulfillment of its obligations", calling on all parties to the agreement to fulfill their promises to save him. In its statement, Moscow stressed that measures should be taken to facilitate financial transactions in order to continue trade. She added,
