The United States of America decided on Saturday to send the USS Arlington ship, which supports amphibious attacks and a Patriot missile battery to the Middle East.

"The acting defense secretary agreed to place the USS Arlington and Patriot batteries at the disposal of the commander of the US Central Command in response to the request of the first command," the Pentagon said in a statement.

"These weapons will be part of the US carrier Abraham Lincoln's attack squad and the US Air Force Task Force in the Middle East in response to indications of Iran's increasing willingness to carry out offensive operations against US forces and to protect our interests," the statement said.

The US military demanded merchant ships flying the US flag, to communicate with the US Fifth Fleet.

The army said a number of B-52 bombers would be part of the additional troops sent to the Middle East.

The threats include commercial ships, oil production infrastructure, oil tankers or US military vessels in the Red Sea Strait of Bab al-Mandab or the Gulf.

The United States threatened on Wednesday to impose further sanctions on Iran "very soon" and warned Europe to enter into deals with Tehran through a trading system without the dollar to circumvent US sanctions. The Trump administration describes the deal negotiated by former US President Barack Obama as flawed because it does not always address the ballistic missile program directly and does not punish Iran for launching proxy wars in other Middle Eastern countries.
