The head of the Iraqi border authorities Kadhim al-Aqabi on Wednesday expressed surprise at the lack of discrimination among some parliamentarians between the work of government institutions.
The MP from the province of Wasit Mahmoud Mullah Talal, along with parliamentarians, at a press conference yesterday the border crossing authority responsible for the spread of drugs in Iraq, demanding the head of the body to resign in the event of inability to control the drug smuggling.
Al-Aqabi said in a statement today that he was surprised by the inability of the MP to distinguish between the functions of the governmental institutions responsible for the border. The border control task is not one of the tasks of the Border Crossing Authority, but rather of the Border Guard's command of the Ministry of the Interior. "He said.
He added that "addressing the problem of the entry of drugs into Iraq does not need statements and speeches, but need to develop plans and treatments to reduce the spread of this dangerous scourge, which requires the Ministry of the Interior to provide detecting drugs and K9 (police dogs) and lack of all our border ports Inspection process ".
Al-Aqabi said, "It was better for the deputy to contribute to addressing this problem when he was the governor of the medium by allocating part of the revenues of the province achieved from the border crossings for 2018, which is estimated at more than 60 billion Iraqi dinars by the application of Article 18 of the Law of the budget of 2018, To the benefit of the province (50%) of the revenues of border ports to be allocated to develop the border port and its approaches and projects of the province.
He wondered, "Why did not MP Mahmoud Mullah Talal realized the seriousness of this scourge when he was addressing the first site in the province of Wasit and worked to implement the law of the budget of 2018 and allocate sufficient funds to develop the port and buy the necessary means to detect drugs and in particular that he is well aware of the lack of Zrbatyp border and More than (6000 passengers) passes through the day through this port and that the inspections are done manually and lack modern equipment.
He pointed out that "the border crossing authority is a supervisory body responsible for detecting and dealing with the imbalances. We called on the Ministry of Interior to strengthen the capabilities of the border guards and the customs police, as well as to strengthen the capabilities of the anti-narcotics police. We called on all governorates to allocate sufficient funds to develop the ports and strengthen their capabilities. The response was not the required level. "
He called on officials of the Ministry of Interior to work to strengthen the capacities of the anti-drug police, customs police and border guards and called on the conservative brothers to allocate sufficient funds to develop border crossings.
