Iran is moving to expedite the opening of a border market with Iraq to export goods and merchandise, including cars
Shafaq News/ The governor of Ilam, western Iran, Hassan Bahram Nia, stated that the preparatory procedures for reopening the border market at the northern Hilala port, adjacent to the Iraqi Diyala governorate, have been expedited, indicating that in the near future the Iranian side will start exporting goods and merchandise from that market based on an agreement between the two governorates.
Bahram Nia spoke in a press statement carried by official Iranian media today, Sunday, regarding his consultations with Diyala province on reopening the border market in Hilala Al-Shamali and developing cooperation between the two sides. He said that his visit to Diyala province came in order to implement the cooperation agreement between the provinces of Ilam and Diyala.
He added that during the meeting with the governor of Diyala, the development of economic and commercial cooperation between the two governorates was emphasized, and we announced that Ilam governorate possesses the capacity to export dairy, fruits, plastic materials, stones, metals and cement, as some of them were approved by the Governor of Diyala.
And the governor of Ilam added, saying: All the needs of the sectors of agriculture, construction, weaving, and road-building machines included in the ban list were also raised in this meeting, and approval was given to export them to Ilam Governorate.
He went on to say that in the event of reopening the border market in Hilala Al-Shamali, some of the exports will take place in the form of baggage or car exports.
It is noteworthy that the governor of Ilam Hassan Bahram Niya arrived in the Iraqi province of Diyala on Friday morning, accompanied by a number of provincial officials, at the invitation of the governor of Diyala Muthanna Ali Mahdi.
