WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump has said he will not stop US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell from resigning after a series of tweets questioning his country's biggest enemy.
Asked by a journalist, "Do you wish to resign?" Before heading to France to attend the G7 summit, Trump said, "If he does, I will not stop him," referring to Powell who appointed him himself, but he is constantly criticizing him.
"I don't think he did a good job," he said.
Trump's comments came a day after Powell said the Federal Reserve would take appropriate steps to ensure the US economy continued to recover, but warned that it did not have a "manual" to deal with the US-China trade war.
In a series of tweets, Trump attacked the central bank's management of the world's largest economy.
"As usual, the Fed has done nothing! It's unbelievable to talk without knowing or asking what I'm doing, which will be announced soon," he wrote.
"My only question is who is our biggest enemy, Powell or President Shi?"
