denied an Iranian diplomat on Saturday, rumors about a possible meeting between the country 's president, Hassan Rowhani, and his US counterpart , Donald Trump, in New York, describing the news as "fake".
The semi-official Fars news agency, which is close to the Revolutionary Guards, quoted a spokesman for the Ankara Representative to the United Nations, Alireza Meriosevi, denying the report in a media report.
Earlier, Japan's Kyodo news agency quoted a US government source as saying Washington had proposed a meeting between Rouhani and Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, scheduled for the second half of September.
"We have not received this request and there is no possibility of a meeting between the two presidents at the UN General Assembly meeting," Meriosfi said.
Although the United States has repeatedly expressed its willingness to negotiate with Iran, the latter insists on rejection until Washington removes sanctions on their country.
