A US Navy Special Forces commander convicted of standing next to the body of an Iraqi detainee to take pictures of his removal is facing days after President Donald Trump canceled the decision to downgrade his salary.
Captain Tamara Lawrence, a spokeswoman for the Seal Command, said Special Forces Commander Edward Gallaher was officially notified on Wednesday that a "review committee" had been convened to assess his eligibility to stay in the special forces.
The five-member committee, which will make a recommendation on whether to remove Jalahir from the naval special forces, will hold a hearing on December 2, she said. The final decision will be in the hands of the Naval Command in Washington.
She said that three of the leaders of Jalahr face separate sessions to determine whether they should also be removed from the forces of the torrent, whose name refers to the forces of the sea, air and land.
She added that these sessions will determine their "responsibility" as the direct leaders of Jalahr.
