A US State Department official declined to comment directly on Prime Minister [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] announcement on Friday that he intended to resign to the House of Representatives.
"We share the legitimate concerns of the demonstrators and continue to call on the Iraqi government to push forward the reforms that the Iraqi people are demanding, including dealing with unemployment, fighting corruption and electoral reform," the US-based Al-Hurra TV quoted the official as saying.
According to the channel, the US official declined to comment on the resignation of Abdul Mahdi.
Abdul Mahdi's announcement of his intention to submit his resignation, hours after the invitation of the religious authority, Mr. Ali al-Sistani, the Council of Representatives to reconsider options to form a government and give them confidence. Done / 25
