Defense Secretary Mark Esber said that the United States has no plans to withdraw from Iraq.
"I saw the message" withdraw from Iraq, and I do not know where it came from, stressing that his team is trying to learn more about this memo.
"We have no plans to withdraw, but it may be about redeployment, not withdrawal," Esber said.
A Pentagon spokesman said that it was not immediately possible to confirm the authenticity of a message stating that US forces intend to withdraw from Iraq, according to Reuters.
And the American army announced in an official message addressed to the Iraqi joint operations command that its forces are taking specific measures to ensure the exit from Iraq.
In the letter signed by Brigadier General William Cilly III, commander of the US Mission in Iraq, which was confirmed by a US military official and another Iraqi, told AFP, the US military reported that the US-led coalition forces would relocate in the coming days and weeks.
US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose sanctions on Baghdad after he called on the Iraqi parliament to work to end the presence of any foreign forces, including the US, in the country.
Trump said that if US forces left, Baghdad would have to pay Washington the cost of an air base there.
"We have an exceptionally expensive air base there." It took us billions of dollars to build it, long before I took office, we will not leave unless they pay us its cost.

    Baghdad / Sky Press

In a letter that conveyed an error to the Iraqis about preparing to withdraw from Iraq, the United States caused a state of confusion that added to the tension prevailing since the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in a US strike in Iraq.
A letter written in the name of General William H. Sealy, commander of US forces, announces to Iraqi officials that Washington is conducting a "repositioning" of its forces in the country with the aim of "withdrawing from Iraq safely and effectively".

Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Mark Esber denied the validity of what was raised about a "mistakenly sent" message to reporters, as it was a notification from the Pentagon to Iraq of his intention to withdraw American forces from the country.

"We are repositioning our forces throughout the region, and this message does not agree with what we are now," Esber told reporters at the Pentagon on Monday evening.

For his part, a US official in Baghdad told CNN   that the message circulated was merely a notification from the United States to Iraq about the redeployment of American forces from one place to another within the region.

"In particular, tonight we had a lot of helicopters flying through Baghdad, and this indicates that we are operating within the laws of the Government of Iraq," the official added.

The official continued, "We are still participating heavily with the Iraqi security forces, and while our training mission and operations to defeat ISIS in Iraq have stopped temporarily, we are looking forward to resuming these operations," explaining that most of these soldiers who are transferred during the training mission are doing " In administrative roles. "

For his part, another American official confirmed the authenticity of the message, which CNN viewed as being addressed by the American Ministry of Defense to its Iraqi counterpart, and the message was dated on Monday, during which the Brigadier-General, Maritime Command, William Sealy said: "In light of due respect for the sovereignty of the Republic of Iraq, At the request of the Iraqi parliament and Prime Minister (Adel Abdul Mahdi), the international coalition forces will be reconstituted over the coming days and weeks. "

The letter does not say that the United States will withdraw its forces from Iraq, but it comes at a time when the United States faces the possibility of the Iraqi government asking them to leave the country.

The letter includes details of the movement of the helicopters around the Green Zone in Baghdad, and said that the coalition forces will take appropriate measures to reduce and mitigate the unrest.

The letter emphasized the "value of friendship and partnership" between Baghdad and Washington, saying: "We respect your sovereign decision to arrange our departure.

While the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Millie, said that the message was mistakenly written and poorly written, he told reporters: "This is not what is happening."

Millie sought to address the confusion that began after the letter leaked to the Iraqi government from the US leadership in Baghdad.

Milli said: "This message is a draft. It was a mistake. It was not signed. It should not have been disclosed ... (It was) poorly worded, it means withdrawal, and that's not what happens."

Millie added: "It is an outright mistake ... it should not be sent."

On Sunday, the Iraqi parliament voted on a resolution that obliges the government to work to end the presence of foreign forces in the country, as part of the repercussions of the killing of the Iranian Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani and the deputy head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, and others in a US air raid near Baghdad airport, last Friday. .

Later, US President Donald Trump, on a presidential plane, during a return trip to Washington from Florida on Sunday evening, said, "If they ask us to leave, if we do not do it in a very friendly way, we will impose on them (Iraq) sanctions, did not Never seen before, "adding" would make Iranian sanctions look a little easy. "

"We have a very expensive air base. It cost billions of dollars to build it, long before I came to the presidency," Trump said, stressing: "We will not leave unless they pay us for it."

On the other hand, the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades threatened to prevent the flow of Gulf oil to America if sanctions were imposed on Baghdad.

After the vote of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, on Sunday, the leader of the Shiite Sadr movement in Iraq threatened Muqtada al-Sadr with "greater behavior" if parliament did not take the security agreement with the United States to be canceled and the US embassy and bases in the country immediately closed.

    [rtl]Follow up / Tomorrow Press:[/rtl]

[rtl]A Washington source revealed that President Donald Trump was concerned about the "mistake" that led to the circulation of a message regarding the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq, and Chief of Staff Mark Millie explained that it was a draft and was sent by mistake, and Defense Secretary Mark Esber denied the existence of any decision to withdraw.[/rtl]

[rtl]A White House official told CNN that Trump expressed concern about the "error" that circulated the message, adding that "Trump asked his aides about the letter and asked them for clarification."[/rtl]

[rtl]For his part, General Millie said that "the message that the American military command sent to its Iraqi counterpart yesterday to inform it that American soldiers will begin to withdraw from Iraq is a (non-signed draft) that was sent by mistake."[/rtl]

[rtl]In the letter addressed to the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, the US military says that "the Washington-led coalition is in the process of carrying out repositioning operations with the goal of safe and effective withdrawal from Iraq." Not what happens. "[/rtl]

[rtl]Milli added that he had seen the intelligence information about what was being attended by the former commander of the Iranian Quds Force Qassem Soleimani, and that it was referring to an imminent danger.[/rtl]

[rtl]He said that "the threats were clear in scope and scope, and that the information did not specify the goal, time, place and how to implement it, as he emphasized that Soleimani was coordinating and preparing for simultaneous combat actions targeting American forces in the region."[/rtl]

[rtl]In turn, Esber told Reuters when asked about the message that "there is absolutely no decision to withdraw from Iraq," adding that there were not even plans to prepare for withdrawal.[/rtl]

[rtl]A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defense confirmed in a tweet that "there is no change in the policy of the United States regarding the presence of its forces in Iraq," noting that "consultations are continuing with the Iraqi government as part of efforts to defeat the Islamic State and support the Iraqi security forces."[/rtl]

[rtl]The Iraqi parliament called on the government to end the presence of foreign forces in Iraq in the wake of the assassination of Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, in a US raid in Baghdad on Friday. Sunnis, and many Shiite MPs participated under threat. "   [/rtl]

[rtl]"The Iraqis do not want us to leave. They know that the United States is there to help them become a sovereign, independent and prosperous country. This is not Iran's intentions, Iran wants to control Iraq and make it a dependent country," he added.[/rtl]
