, US President Donald Trump, in a speech in Michigan, pledged to return the deportation of some Iraqi Christians whose administration sought to return them to their country.
"His administration will provide an extension" for Iraqi immigrants from the Chaldean Catholics, "Trump said, adding:" We will make sure that we are doing everything we can to remove the people who have done good to this country by harm ... We will give those who need an extension to stay in our country. "
The US president is seeking to win a second term in the November election, and Michigan, which he narrowly won in 2016, could be a stiff contestant during the campaign.
Trump launched a massive crackdown on immigration after he came to power that included the arrest of Iraqi Christians holding deportation orders in the Detroit area, some of whom had lived in the United States for decades.
Immigration authorities have previously refrained from deporting Iraqi migrants because the government in Baghdad would have refused to receive them, but in 2017 Iraq agreed to accept the deportees as part of an agreement to remove his name from the Trump administration's travel ban list.
