    Economy News _ Baghdad
The amount of rain that has fallen during the past days has strengthened the country's water storage, to dispel any fears of a shortage or drought during the summer season, amid expectations that the total storage will reach more than 50 billion cubic meters by the end of next May.
The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed its willingness to absorb the rain water and the expected torrents, according to the advisor and spokesman for the ministry, Engineer Aoun Diab Abdullah, to the official newspaper "Al-Sabah" and informed by "Al-Iqtisad News" that the ministry took all measures to face any possible flood wave due to the rain and the coming torrential water From the northern and eastern regions of the country.
Abdullah stressed that the ministry has plans to take advantage of rain water and store the largest possible amount, noting that there is a storage vacuum in dams and reservoirs located on the Tigris River exceeding 30 billion cubic meters, mostly in Lake Tharthar, which has the capacity to absorb about 20 billion additional cubic meters .
The marshes areas also have a storage capacity, which is able to absorb quantities of water, which contributes to improving water quality, environmental reality and reducing salinity there.
He pointed out that the water situation in the Euphrates River is good, after receiving large quantities of water coming from Turkey and Syria at relatively high rates, and it is enough to fill Haditha Dam and Habbaniyah Lake if the flow of water continues at these rates.
The spokesman pointed to the ministry's endeavor to prepare a long-term strategic plan to take full advantage of the quantities of incoming water and meet the needs in the summer season.
The consultant expected in the Ministry of Water Resources, that the total storage this year will reach 50 billion cubic meters, and this amount is sufficient to keep the specter of drought during the summer season.
