On Saturday, the Prime Minister-designate, Adnan Al-Zorfi, affirmed that one of the government's priorities is to meet the demands of the peaceful movement and extend the rule of law, while stressing the work to reduce the level of poverty in the country and restore civil peace.
The Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement that, “This morning, the Prime Minister-designate, Adnan Al-Zorfi, met the ambassadors of the European Union countries accredited in Baghdad,” noting that “at the beginning of the meeting, Al-Zorfi expressed to the ambassadors his condolences to all European countries that lose hundreds of their citizens every day due to a pandemic. He added that "the Prime Minister-designate reviewed the size of the risks facing Iraq, the countries of the region and the world in light of the fears resulting from the spread of the epidemic and its repercussions, crippling the economy and the global market."
On the other hand, Al-Zorfi warned of the "serious risks left by the decline in world oil prices", stressing "his confidence in Iraq’s ability to overcome the new crisis of its possession of wealth, which compensates it for the losses provided that the competent government administration is available."
Al-Zarfi also briefed the ambassadors on the paths of forming his government, stressing that "his government's priorities are to meet the demands of the peaceful movement to hold early free and fair elections, to address the financial and potential economic collapse, and to work to reduce the level of poverty in the country, restore civil peace, and establish the rule of law."
For their part, the ambassadors expressed their wishes for Iraq to restore its health and achieve the desired stability, and for the Prime Minister-designate to accomplish his mission in order to meet the aspirations of the people, and enhance Iraq’s traditional status in the region and the world.
