Shafaq News / US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani discussed, on Tuesday, the outstanding differences between Baghdad and Erbil.
This came in a lengthy phone call Barzani received from Pompeo, according to a statement issued by the regional government received by Shafaq News.
The statement stated that Pompeo and Barzani discussed at length the differences between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, especially the issue of the budget.
Barzani suggested that “America and the United Nations participate effectively and at a high level in solving problems and reaching an agreement between the region and the federal government on the basis of the constitution.”
Barzani also expressed his thanks for the position of the US Secretary of State, who expressed his desire for the region to obtain its share of the federal budget fairly, and also thanked Pompeo for his continuous support for the Kurdistan Region during his tenure.
The two sides stressed, during the call, “the importance of developing relations between the Kurdistan Region and America more, especially in the field of energy.”
Barzani referred to “the importance of continuing US aid to the Peshmerga forces, as well as technical assistance by USAID.”
In another axis of the phone call, the two parties discussed the obstacles that stand in the way of security stability in the region, the elimination of tensions on the borders of the Kurdistan Region and Syria, and the importance of implementing the Sinjar Agreement in order to return the displaced to their places.
