Oil prices rose today, Friday, after the "Ansar Allah" movement (Houthis) in Yemen announced the targeting of oil installations in Saudi Arabia, one of the largest oil producers in the world.
By 09:15 Moscow time, US crude contracts, "West Texas Intermediate", were trading at $ 59.36 a barrel, up 1.37% from the previous closing price, according to the "RT" website.
Brent contracts were trading at $ 62.68 a barrel, an increase of 1.18% over the previous settlement price, according to data provided by Bloomberg.
The "Ansar Allah" movement announced an operation in which 18 drones and ballistic missiles were used against the giant oil company, "Aramco" in Ras Tanura, Yanbu, Rabigh and Jizan.
For its part, Riyadh criticized the attack, and the Saudi Ministry of Defense said, "The Houthi attack on the Jazan terminal is an act of sabotage and cowardice, targeting the global economy and the security of petroleum exports."
Oil prices were also supported by the disruption of navigation in the Suez Canal due to an aground container ship, which led to fears that oil supplies would be affected by this, but economic concerns on global demand for crude due to the Corona virus crisis limited the gains in oil prices.
