Half of the quantities of gas in Iraq are burning (Facebook)
The Ministry of Oil and the French company Total have concluded an agreement to establish four projects in the oil, gas and solar energy sectors, foremost among which is the collection and refining of gas from all fields outside the Basra Gas Agreement, in steps that will invest large quantities of burnt gas, which is estimated at more than 17 billion cubic meters in All fields.

In Iraq, there are fields that contain high levels of natural gas, but it is wasted in the air every day
Economic readings indicate that commitment and seriousness in implementing these development projects will spare Iraq from importing gas from neighboring Iran, whose gas pumping amounted to 22 million standard cubic meters that operate power stations in Iraq, in addition to maximizing gas supplies, and investing the entire amount of fields that contain High percentages of waste natural gas production in the air every day.

Economist Nabil Al-Tamimi says, "In every agreement or contract between two parties on such major projects, it is necessary to focus on costs, economic feasibility and the duration of implementation, pointing to" the existence of previous agreements signed in this regard, so it is necessary to know whether the new is equal to the old and what is the difference between them. And why did the old investments not provide the desired benefit until the new companies were introduced?
In an interview with Ultra Iraq, Al-Tamimi refers to “international offers made to Iraq to invest in natural gas and prevent its waste, but in varying numbers, as the Iraqi side’s approval remained vague about the conditions that the investor could apply to agree to it or the amounts of costs or interest from these Projects, to support the state treasury, develop the electricity sector and meet its special need, and we hear about the global competition to win gas investment in Iraq since 2018, but without the authorities knowing their names.
The agreement includes other economic and development projects, including the construction of complexes and units for processing associated gas and investing it in two phases, with a capacity of 600 million cubic feet and a sea water project, in addition to the establishment of a solar energy project for the Ministry of Electricity with a capacity of 1000 megawatts.
Oil expert Alaa Mohammed comments about signing with Total, saying that it is "one of the largest companies in the world and is ranked among the sixth oil companies in the world, and is qualified to undertake development and investment projects in Iraq and other countries, in addition to being working in Iraq since the twenties of the last century, indicating that it is" She knows very well the conditions of the country and the oil deposits in it, and she is one of the first investors in the Iraq Oil Company, ITT. "
In an interview with Ultra Iraq, Muhammad explains that the collection and refining of gas will take place in all fields, but outside the Basra Gas Agreement, because there is a specialized company in the province under the name (Basra Gas) that was established by the Ministry of Oil in 2013, and it contains shares of the Dutch Shell company. The Japanese company, Mitsubishi, and the largest investor in it is the Iraqi South Gas Company. Therefore, in order not to contradict work with Tuttle, which will open a new company, it means opening the new door for appointments and jobs to complete the cadres of implementing the agreement.

An oil expert says that Iraq produces about 3,000 gas pumps per day, but that half of this amount is burned
And Mohammed added, "According to estimates, the work will be to treat 40% km of the burning gas, indicating that" the economic importance of Iraq lies in converting the associated gas into fuel for turbines to generate electric power at cheaper prices than imported from neighboring countries, indicating that "Iraq produces about 3 Thousands of gas pumps a day, half of which are burning. "

Muhammad pointed out, "What is included in the agreement is the integrated seawater project that has been delayed for more than 10 years, which Hyundai was trying to obtain and tried to enter to find out its details and implement it, in addition to Exxon Mobil, which for 16 years tried to win it, but was unable to As it is one of the development projects because it will extract salty seawater and convert it into usable water pumped to oil wells, in order to pay in the fields and raise the oil in them, as it is currently using potable water and water in rivers and lakes, and will make the export capacity of Iraqi oil increased by approximately 2.5 million barrels As he pointed out that "the inclusion of the Artawi field in the agreement will raise its production capacity from 60 thousand barrels of oil to 200 thousand barrels."
These projects will be attached to other future contracts for gas investment in the governorates of Maysan, Dhi Qar and Akkaz in Anbar and Mansuriyah in Diyala, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Oil.
But an economic analyst at the Belt and Road Institute in Sweden and the Shiller International Institute, Hussein al-Askari, believes that "the nature of the situation in Iraqi gas investment, no matter how much the price is beneficial in the medium and long term, but the terms of contracting with foreign companies must be scrutinized."
In an interview with Ultra Iraq, Al-Askari asserts that “foreign companies are supposed to initially provide technical services and constructions for a fee, and not quotas in production,” adding that “the national oil company is the one that is supposed to be responsible for production and marketing, just as Iraq needs to investigate. Complete self-sufficiency, and begins with exporting petrochemical materials such as fertilizers and chemicals.
Oil Minister Ihssan Abdul-Jabbar had expected, in statements reported by Bloomberg, that the contract would be completed before July, saying that “the relationship with Total will be based on targeting the low-carbon industry and seizing all burning gas with an investment size of more than $ 7 billion. , While noting that "Iraq will reduce its imports of gasoline and oil gas by 50% in 2021, and 90% in 2022, as Iraq is currently buying gas from Iran and is trying to diversify imports from Qatar, Kazakhstan and other producers."
