    Baghdad today - Diyala
Today, Friday (May 10, 2024), the Department of Water Resources in Diyala resolved the controversy over the “Wadi al-Tea” project between the governorate and its neighbor, Salah al-Din.
Director of Diyala Resources, Muhannad Al-Mamouri, said in an interview with “Baghdad Al-Youm”: “The water transfer project from Wadi Al-Shai near Tuz Khurmato district, east of Salah al-Din, to the vicinity of Lake Hamrin in the far north-east of Diyala is subject to study by the Studies Center in the Ministry of Water Resources to complete surveys and design as it is A strategic project with multiple dimensions.
Al-Mamouri added, "The project will create flexibility in transporting seasonal flood water from Wadi Al-Shai across several areas and slopes towards Lake Hamrin, which will enhance its water storage and contribute to greater benefit from water harvesting," pointing out that "the project will be implemented as soon as studies are completed."
He pointed out that "feeding Lake Hamrin will provide the water needs of more than 65% of Diyala areas for agricultural purposes and central liquefaction complexes."
The Diyala regions are witnessing seasonal floods that lead to major damage to property and the displacement of families living in villages adjacent to the flood areas, the most recent of which was on Wednesday (May 8, 2024), when a government official revealed the results of the final report on the damage to the Hamrin floods, far northeast of Diyala, while confirming that 140 people were damaged. house and killed hundreds of sheep and cattle.
The director of the Qara Tappah district (110 km northeast of Baqubah), Wasfi al-Tamimi, said in an interview with “Baghdad Today,” that “the final report on the damage of the torrential floods that struck several villages east of Qara Tappah at the beginning of this May, which was completed through a joint committee that worked hard over the course of days.” Preparing its terms and submitting it officially to the local government of Diyala in order to speed up compensation transactions.”
He added, "The most prominent items in the report include the damage to 140 homes, including 30 that completely collapsed, meaning that families no longer have any shelter, while 160 families affected by varying degrees of floods were counted, in addition to the death of hundreds of sheep and livestock."
He pointed out that "the flow of torrents on the slopes of the Hamrin Basin has now ended, but the extent of the damage was concentrated in two villages, most notably Kashkul," pointing out that "aid has been flowing for days, but the extent of the damage is large and requires a greater government effort to contain and pay lucrative compensation to families to rebuild their damaged homes." .
