    The General Company for Textiles and Leather Industries at the Ministry of Industry and Minerals announced, on Wednesday, an increase in its sales despite the economic crisis that the country is witnessing due to the “Corona” virus pandemic.
    The director of the Baghdad Shoes website at the company, Qassem Abdul Mohsen Jassim, said in a statement seen by "Al-Iqtisad News", that "the company has developed a plan to start marketing its products, including shoes and blankets, in addition to carpet factories," noting that "the plan included promoting the production of protective and military suits, in addition to to the official, and others used at work, by addressing government departments to present these products to their employees.”
    Jassem added, "The company marketed its products during the last period, including masks, protective suits, and body bags, to the Ministry of Health, according to the specifications required to confront the Corona pandemic, which led to an increase in sales of up to 40%."
    He explained, "The company has implemented contracts with the Ministries of Defense and Interior by equipping them with service shoes of natural leather and military uniforms," ​​stressing that "the products are delivered after conducting tests according to the Iraqi specifications issued by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control."
    On the impact of the dollar exchange rate, Jassim stressed that “the company sells its products at fixed prices that do not change with market changes, which led to its sales being at cost and unprofitable, especially at the present time due to the high foreign currency prices.”
    Jassim expressed his hope for "the advancement of the industrial reality in the country, revealing the impossibility of implementing the idea of ​​offering the factory for investment, due to the investor's demand to reduce the number of workers and lay off the surplus, which is an absolutely unacceptable idea."
