Reconstruction: Opening 5 projects to relieve congestion by the end of 2024

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities will open the Aden and Sana'a Squares project in the coming few days, and will also launch four projects from the two traffic congestion relief packages by the end of 2024, revealing that it is currently rehabilitating eight bridges in Baghdad in preparation for the Arab Summit that will be held there next year.
The official spokesman for the ministry, Eng. Istibraq Sabah, told Al-Sabah that the ministry is currently implementing 11 projects within the remaining first package projects to relieve traffic congestion, noting that these projects include developing Al-Nusour Square, constructing Al-Fadhiliyah Bridge, developing the (Dawra-Saydiyah) intersection, Al-Rashid Camp, developing the refineries intersection, in addition to developing Al-Talae’ Square, in addition to the road linking the Muhammad Al-Qasim Expressway to the (Kut-Baghdad) Road.
He added that the projects include the Tobji and Al-Zafaraniya bridges in addition to the Central Bank Bridge, noting that the Aden and Sana'a Squares project is among these projects, which the ministry is preparing to open in the coming few days, especially since the ministry's engineering and technical staff have begun removing encroachments and randomness on its approaches in preparation for its full opening.
Sabah explained that his ministry has started one project within the second package consisting of 15 new projects, which is the construction of a bridge parallel to the Sarafiya Bridge, along with the construction of the Sarafiya and Baratha bridges. The project to build the Al-Krayat Bridge will be started, which will form an important axis for transporting traffic in northern Baghdad, as part of the ministry’s direction to establish new axes for transport movement, and to connect the two sides of Karkh and Rusafa.
He explained that once his ministry opens a number of projects in the first package, it will start projects within the second package in succession to achieve smooth traffic flow, revealing that the end of this year will witness the opening of four projects within the first package, namely the (Dawra-Sidiya) intersection, the Fadhiliya Bridge, the development of the Rashid intersection with the Al-Mashan Complex, in addition to the Buratha Bridge, which is considered one of the projects in the second package.
He noted that in the same context, the projects of the bridges crossing the river will be postponed to next year, namely the refinery intersection project, the Tala'ea Square Bridge, and the Gaza Bridge in the Zafaraniya area, in addition to the Abu Nawas development project, because work on these projects began late, and they also require many work and procedures that companies have been obligated to follow to maintain the quality and soundness of the projects.
In another context, the official spokesman for reconstruction announced that his ministry is currently implementing a plan to rehabilitate eight bridges crossing the Tigris River in Baghdad, which have now begun work, namely the Al-Jadriya and 14 Ramadan bridges, while the remaining bridges will be implemented successively, as part of the preparations and arrangements for the Arab Summit that will be held in Baghdad next year.
