The authority stated in a statement, of which “Nass” received a copy of it, (June 18, 2021), that it is “continuing and with great vigor with its auditing and oversight procedures, and with continuous follow-up by the head of the authority, Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, as the northern port of Umm Qasr port was able to seize (5) containers. The description of its merchandise, as well as the customs and tax fees, was tampered with, which caused a waste of public money worth (70) million Iraqi dinars."
The statement added, "The seizure process took place outside the customs campus when the search and investigation was under the control of our body, and its customs treatment was completed by the customs detection committee affiliated to the Customs Center, the Basra Gate Station, contrary to the controls and instructions in force."
The statement indicated that "the container contains satellite devices (55000 pieces), contrary to what was mentioned in the customs transaction, with (1500 cartons and 4000 cartons of ceramic insulators) in the containers' content, as well as forgery in the delivery order issued by the maritime agencies. And the absence of a certificate of conformity and a release document from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control.”
The statement pointed out that "what was seized was referred to the Umm Qasr police station for the purpose of displaying it before the eyes of the competent investigative judge to take the necessary legal measures against it and against the defaulters from the detection committee who completed the customs transaction in contravention of the controls and instructions."
