    On Saturday (August 21, 2021), a member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, MP Abdel-Khaleq Al-Azzawi, warned of the existence of a multinational mafia leading the drug file in Iraq, expecting this phenomenon to turn into the number one danger in the country, a precedent of the danger posed by terrorism, during the next few years.
    In an interview with IQ News , Al-Azzawi said  that drugs are no longer just a single case that emerges here and there, but rather a phenomenon that expands in a cancerous manner and spreads in an unprecedented manner in all Iraqi governorates, including Diyala, which in recent years has turned into a corridor and point of abuse and a large part of what escapes is running Its consumption, even by up to 20%, according to the readings.
    Al-Azzawi warned that "a multinational mafia is leading the drug file in Iraq, and it cannot be controlled in light of the capabilities of these mafias and their penetration and the dominance of some of them," stressing that "drugs will turn into the number one danger in the country within a few years, and we will have a battle no less fierce. About our fight with terrorism now.
    He pointed out that "there is an agenda that pushes to transform Iraq into a large environment for drug abuse by pumping large quantities into the regions and of various types," noting that "the battle to fight drugs needs 3 tracks at the same time, which are deterrent laws, decisive force and national flags."
    While he warned "young people of the danger of the quagmire of addiction, otherwise we will witness great tragedies that hit Iraqi society in the near future," he praised "the security pressure that contributes to preventing the transfer of drug cultivation to the depths of Iraq."
    He added that "the pathways for the flow of drugs to Iraq are numerous and in different forms, the most important of which is from neighboring countries, especially smuggling," noting, "So far, we have not proven, with physical evidence, the existence of organized cultivation of some types of narcotics, because the issue requires exceptional expertise and efforts, which is not currently available."
