    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee said today, Saturday (January 27, 2024), that there are 22 parties in security controls between the governorates, while indicating that there are controls that have become known to public opinion as “disasters” on the main roads due to illegal collections.
Committee member MP Waad al-Qaddo told “Baghdad Today” that “the file of controls on land roads between the governorates, especially with the capital, Baghdad, is dangerous and calls for urgent steps to correct its course as it faces chaos concentrated in multiple dimensions, including the presence of 22 parties in one control, in addition to illegal collections.” And blackmail, which leads to raising prices and creating endless suffering for citizens and merchants, not to mention its negative security impact.”
He added, "He called on the joint operations to remove unimportant checkpoints and designate them at the entrances to cities, asking: What is the benefit of setting checkpoints whose distance does not exceed 1 km, and have they participated in arresting saboteurs or ISIS for years?"
Al-Qaddo pointed out that “there are controls that have become known to public opinion as disasters on the main roads due to illegal collection and harming citizens in various ways,” stressing that the control file is currently on the Sudanese table, awaiting a serious road map that contributes to ending the dilemma and security and economic exhaustion at the same time.
The Iraqi security authorities announce from time to time the lifting of a number of internal and external controls between the governorates, to reduce traffic congestion and limit the extortion operations practiced in a number of them.”
On December 6 of last year, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani decided to lift control over the Jadriya Bridge and other controls in the Doura sector in the center and south of the capital, Baghdad.
On August 23rd of last year, Al-Sudani also directed to lift the control of Al-Rustamiya, which links the capital, Baghdad, with the central and southern governorates, to a location close to Al-Laj control, which is considered the entrance to Wasit Governorate, but the decision has not been implemented until this moment
