{Economic: Al Furat News} An economist identified the reasons for the high food prices in Iraq.
Nabil Al-Marsoumi told {Euphrates News}: "The rise in oil prices that Iraq is witnessing is a reflection of its rise globally, after the strict measures were withdrawn due to the Corona pandemic."
He pointed out that "the drought wave led to a significant decline in the production of foodstuffs, and this is reflected in Iraq because most of Iraq's foodstuffs are imported from abroad, and this has a negative impact on it."
Al-Marsoumi indicated that "the FAO Food Organization is supervising international food prices, but the rise has causes, and the repercussions of the Iraqi dinar exchange rate had a significant impact on prices."
He stressed that "it is the government's duty to take its real role in this regard in terms of monitoring and accountability for anyone who takes advantage of the situation."
It is noteworthy that the local markets in the country are witnessing a rise in the prices of food and consumer items in general.
And Wara Finance said today in a lengthy report that there are indications that economic growth is starting to recover gradually, in the wake of the downturn that hit it as a result of the Corona pandemic last year.
For his part, the head of the National State Forces Alliance, Ammar Al-Hakim, called today on the government to address the noticeable rise in the prices of food and consumer goods that directly affect the life of the citizen, which burdens the citizens, especially those with limited income.
He also called on the government to intervene immediately and monitor prices, especially with the rise in oil prices, which expands its options and gives it multiple radical solutions.
It is noteworthy that international oil prices currently range in the market between 80 to 82 dollars per barrel, according to the benchmark Brent crude index.
