The Democratic and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan parties reached an agreement that includes entering into government formation negotiations with a united front and paper, and they are preparing to activate a previous strategic agreement between them, and they talked about the need to adhere to the provisions of the constitution, especially those related to the federal system and financial benefits for the region, as well as other issues such as oil and gas and the status of the Peshmerga in the defense system the National.
Before that, the winning Sunni forces in the elections agreed to form a united front, while the dispute continues within the Shiite political house, specifically between the Sadrist movement and the coordination framework.
In an interview with Al-Mada, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Imad Baglan, said, "Our party does not deal with partners in the Kurdistan region on the basis of electoral merit. Rather, we stress the need for us to be a solid Kurdish bloc that goes to Baghdad to solve outstanding problems."
Baglan added, "We had many positions to urge the Sunni forces to unite to be a solid bloc, and the same is true for the Shiite forces, which we hope will end their differences and agree on a vision for the next stage."
He pointed out, "The unity of the ranks for us is in the interest of the political process and leads to the formation of a strong government capable of bearing the burdens."
And Baglan said, "The Kurdistan Democratic Party had a strategic agreement with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which witnessed during the past period some apathy, and we are looking today to activate it by reformulating it again to be long-term."
He finds, "All the positions of the parties in the region are in the interest of the Kurdish people, in particular, and Iraq in general, and today we want to unify these positions."
And Baglan added, "Many points have been agreed upon in the meetings between the two parties that lead to a strong and sober alliance that goes to Baghdad to negotiate the formation of the government."
He continues, "Negotiations are still ongoing between the Kurdish parties," stressing that "the position of the President of the Republic will not be a point of contention; Because delving into the interests of the region is more important than positions.”
And Baglan stated, "The nomination of the candidate for the president of the republic will be in agreement with the Kurdish parties, and we do not care which party it is, and we want to repeat the same mechanism in which the late President Jalal Talabani was nominated."
He warned, "The region will comply with the constitution and put its negotiations within its limits, as it is the law that regulates and represents the work of the state, and we will not transgress its texts, especially those related to the system, federal institutions, financial benefits and the status of the Peshmerga forces in the national defense system."
Paglan concluded, “One of the important things that we will discuss with the blocs in Baghdad is not to use the region’s employees’ salary paper in political pressure, as it is not permissible to starve citizens because of a political dispute.”
For his part, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Saadi Beira, said in a statement to (Al-Mada), that "the two parties reached a conclusion that the Kurdistan region enters negotiations to form a government with a joint body and paper."
Bira added, "With regard to the Shiite house and the differences that revolve in it, the Kurds will stand at the same distance from the parties, and we are waiting for an internal agreement to be reached."
He pointed out, "Our perception is that any government formed on the ruins of differences will face major problems in carrying out its tasks."
Bira noted that "Iraq faces problems and challenges at the external level, and we do not accept that a new crisis should be added to us at the internal level."
And he stated, "The dialogues that the united Kurdish bloc will conduct with the Shiite and Sunni parties aim to reach a viable government program in compliance with the constitutional texts."
And Bira believed that "the demands of the Kurds are known to all, which is the implementation of the provisions of the constitution related to the crippled federal system, especially those that require the issuance of laws in the House of Representatives, the most important of which are oil and gas, and financial benefits, as well as the need to restore confidence between the federal authorities and the region."
He continues, "The visits that were made during the past period, whether from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan or the Kurdistan Democratic Party, were for the purpose of reconnaissance and to feel the pulse in order for them to be aware of the atmosphere in general, not to negotiate."
Bira added that "the Kurdish delegation will prepare a unified, acceptable and practical paper that includes the region's demands, and before preparing this paper, these polls were conducted in Baghdad."
According to the final election results, the Kurdistan Democratic Party won 31 seats, while the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan won 17 seats.
