Decreased central bank sales of remittances .. and an expert: cash requests are sufficient
Shafaq News/ The Central Bank's dollar sales fell today, Tuesday, to more than 200 million dollars, while an economist considered that the cash purchase of dollars is sufficient to cover domestic demand.
Shafak News Agency correspondent stated that today, during its auction for buying and selling US dollars, the Central Bank witnessed a decrease in its dollar sales by 5.16% to reach 202 million and 629 thousand and 408 US dollars covered by the bank at a base exchange rate of 1460 dinars per dollar, compared to yesterday, Monday. Sales amounted to 213 million and 71 thousand and 890 US dollars.
Our correspondent added that most of the bank's sales went to enhance balances abroad in the form of remittances and credits, which amounted to 154 million and 689 thousand and 408 dollars, while the remaining amount of 47 million and 940 thousand dollars went in cash.
Our correspondent indicated that 25 banks have met requests to enhance balances abroad, 18 banks to meet cash requests, in addition to 217 mediation companies.
While the financial expert, Hilal Al-Tahan, said in an interview with Shafak News Agency; "The Central Bank's dollar sales that are in cash are sufficient to cover the local markets, whether it is for dealers or citizens," noting that "commercial activity in Iraq and imports are financed through external remittances that take most of the volume of these sales from the dollar."
He added, "The bank's continuation of selling the dollar has greatly limited the dollar's rise," noting that "the cash sales of the dollar will not exceed the barrier of 50 million dollars per day, which is what banks need in their transactions and what the local markets need."
