With political engines, the wheel of turmoil is turning again in the market, but this time from the oil crisis and the rise in food prices.
After investing in the dollar exchange rate crisis, the parties are trying to strengthen their cards before the presidential election session, by investing the high prices globally to motivate local public opinion, and they may resort, according to insiders, to moving the street in the coming period.
Economists say market speculation is a political game played by big whales with ties to parties.
Karim El-Helou, an economist, said that "there are large whales that impose prices," noting that "the economic security detachments were unable to reach these whales when they roamed the markets to control prices."
Al-Helou added that “the merchants in the markets buy from others who are larger than themselves and have relations with the parties, and these people do not appear in the picture and move prices behind the scenes.”
But even this paper is open to the majority coalition, as Hakim al-Zamili, a leader in the Sadrist movement and the first deputy speaker of Parliament, states that Parliament has accurate information about merchants stockpiling foodstuffs with the intention of raising prices.
Politicians assert that the current food crisis is not far from the context of political bidding imposed by the new scene, while pointing out that some of the election losers are trying to exploit the government's weak capabilities to take major financial steps, as it is a caretaker government, which is unable to take measures with wide powers.
