Eggs to 73 thousand dinars and oil to 54 thousand (Facebook)
The prices of commodities and foodstuffs in the Iraqi markets continue to rise towards numbers that citizens are not accustomed to, but the curfew measures due to the pandemic and the increase in the exchange rates of the dollar led to an increase in the prices of materials with a known relationship to the purchasing power represented by demand and offers by suppliers in the market.

A number of citizens complain about high prices, as the price of oil was 1500 Iraqi dinars or 2000 dinars, but today it is 3000 thousand and more per pack.
At this time, the ration card items continue to disappear more than two months after the last time they were distributed in early 2021, which is a major reason for the high cost of materials in the stores, and the Cabinet also recently called on the Ministry of Trade to accelerate the distribution of the card items with the best quality to the poor to overcome the economic and bureaucratic challenges. All in light of the Corona pandemic and with the approaching month of Ramadan.

A number of citizens complain about the high prices, as the price of oil was 1500 Iraqi dinars or 2000 dinars, but according to them, it has become today at 3000 thousand and more per pack, which constitutes a heavy burden on them, especially for the owners of daily income and the poor classes in society. Their calls to the concerned authorities to find urgent solutions to stop the rise in prices in the market.
Jassim al-Muhammadawi, a foodstuff dealer in the capital, Baghdad, says, “Merchants today are suffering as a result of the increase in the dollar’s exchange rate, and their profits for the year 2020 were zero or below zero for some of them, as a result of the closure in Iraq due to the Corona pandemic, as well as the collapse of large companies as a result of anticipating their activities. And actually began to restructure its business for its major losses, pointing out that "the government in Iraq does not care about merchants and businessmen who focus their efforts on the commercial and industrial sectors, while neighboring countries such as Jordan and the Gulf states, in addition to China and the United States support traders in crises to strengthen the market and activate important economic plans to ensure that there is no Notifying the citizen with any crisis.
Al-Muhammadawi added to "Ultra Iraq", that "there are no justifications for the calls directed to hold merchants accountable and to impose penalties on them because they are not party to raising prices. Blame them away from the first cause, which is the governmental measures and the concerned authorities in this regard. "
He points out that "the market movement depends on supply and demand. When the government pressures the merchant to impose a price on goods such as eggs, chicken and oil, it must know that the supply must match the strength of demand, not that the relationship is disturbed by the presence of high demand and little supply, because that will be illogical Pointing out that there is a bad management of the economic file in the country and cannot solve the existing problems, and it has a severe impact on citizens and merchants together, while pointing out “the necessity to open imports of some materials that are in high demand to prevent some traders from raising prices, and so that the supply increases. And some merchants are deprived of greed that the goods will be available in the entire market. "
The price of food, rice, eggs, chicken meat and other items, especially basic materials, witnessed a rise in prices, while the reasons varied according to merchants. 73 thousand egg cartons in a strange boom in retail wholesale markets.

A deputy sent a letter to the prime minister asking him to hold greedy merchants accountable for not winning them ethically
The economic analyst Abdul Hassan Al-Shammari justifies the step of raising the dollar’s exchange rate by saying that it came to compensate the state treasury with an amount of 12 trillion Iraqi dinars for what Iraq lost as a result of low oil prices, but he added, “There must be quick treatments by the government because the exchange rate created problems in the relationship. Buyer and seller in the market, especially with regard to materials imported from abroad, which generated great pressure on the vulnerable strata of society, ”indicating to“ Ultra Iraq, ”that“ the simplest step that the government can take is to raise low salaries to amounts through which the shopkeeper can cope with rising prices. ".

On the other hand, the MP from Nineveh Governorate, Ahmed Al-Jarba, spoke of sending a letter to the Prime Minister asking him to hold accountable “greedy merchants for not winning in an ethical manner, as they raised food prices in a clear exploitation of economic conditions, indicating to Ultra Iraq that“ the rise of the dollar from 1200 Dollars to $ 1460 has greatly affected the condition of the citizen, and then the employee. Unfortunately, the government has no real vision and cannot control prices and adjust the rhythm of the markets properly, so it must not be involved in manipulating the dollar exchange rates.
Al-Jarba added, "The cheerful merchants in the Iraqi market deserve execution or imprisonment for manipulating prices, even though the dollar rose only by 200 dinars, but the high cost of materials was not justified by raising them to double."
The Ministry of Planning confirms the effect of the dollar on the markets, according to a statement by its spokesperson, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, in which he says that "one of the effects of the exchange rate is the rise of materials in general on food, consumer and construction materials in varying proportions, which led to an increase in inflation levels in the country by 2/4 during the three." The past months, pointing out that "during the past period, the rise did not exceed 1.5%, and as a result, when such a percentage occurs, which is 2/4, certainly there are some prices that may have risen to 20% or less or more, and that this rise in prices has cast a shadow over Vulnerable groups, the poor who live below the poverty line.
A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Ahmed Al-Saffar, believes that “the issue of the dollar’s exchange rate by lowering or raising is a legal authority entrusted exclusively to the Central Bank of Iraq, in addition to determining the size of the monetary mass in the country, indicating in an interview with“ Ultra Iraq ”, that“ the financial committee does not It determines the exchange rate, and it is not in its power to change it no matter what happens, unlike the possibility of its intervention in determining the price of a barrel of oil in the financial budget. "
Al-Saffar stressed that "it is clear to everyone the impact of the dollar on the prices of goods and commodities on the market," but this remains only the government's decision, and the authority to direct to change it in cooperation with the Central Bank.
