    Earth News/ Environment Minister Jassem Al-Falahi said today, Wednesday, that the sensitivity of the water sector and its political, economic, social, health and security dimensions make it imperative for everyone to focus great on the cross-border water negotiations.
    The minister added, during the holding of the activities of the second Baghdad International Water Conference in the capital on the fifth of this month, with international participation, as well as through the establishment of a workshop of the United Nations Development Program that “this workshop is an important qualitative leap in the file of Iraq’s water negotiations with neighboring countries, as well as they are in progress to integrate The dimensions of the effects of climate change and the environmental sector within the contents of the negotiating axes on the transboundary water file.”
    He stressed "the need for Iraq to obtain its water quotas that secure the requirements of a decent life for the citizen, provide food security for Iraq and increase the resilience of the affected sectors and fragile communities," noting that "the current primary and environmental plans of the Ministry of Water are within its first strategy for the future."
    Al-Falahi explained, “Studies and reports indicated that there are seven million people in Iraq who are threatened with not getting their water needs during the next few years if the neighboring countries’ water policies continue, as well as if the water pollution continues, and this sounds like alarm bells for Iraq.” related to internal migration and the increase in the phenomenon of so-called climate refugees.”
    He pointed out that “the focus should be on managing the water sector in all its axes, the most important of which is the diplomatic and negotiation dimension, and the need for the water sector to be one of the most important pillars of bilateral, regional and global relations.”
    He stressed that "the Ministry of Environment is keen to support water diplomacy and integrate the environment sector and climate change."
