    The economic expert, Mustafa Hantoush, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the number of central markets between direct markets, exhibitions and storage sites reaches approximately 67 sites, affiliated with the General Company for Central Markets," noting that "Cabinet Resolution No. ( 128 for the year 2017) to dissolve the company and refer it to investment, and it was not implemented, as one of the companies invested in 2018 in (five markets), then the investment was canceled in 2020.”

    The cost of the reconstruction of central markets
    He added, "According to the statements of one of the company's representatives, he indicated that" the cost of replacing elevators and escalators, restoring the structure, repainting and modifying the facade from cutting and decorations, and maintaining electricity, water and sewage networks ranges from 3-5 billion Iraqi dinars for each site, and according to this cost, the total amount The financial position for (67) locations as a maximum, amounting to approximately 300 billion dinars.”

    Job Opportunities 
    He pointed out, “One central market can provide at least 200 locations between shops, parks, restaurants, cafes, service and security businesses, and these locations would provide 700 opportunities. work, so the total output of all central market sites will be approximately 45,000 job opportunities, in addition to strengthening the state’s ability to deliver real prices to citizens and set up exhibitions for Iraqi products on an ongoing basis and achieve food security.”

    100 billion dinars annual losses
    And he stated, "The area of ​​one central market is not less than 10,000 meters in the best places in Baghdad and the provinces, and the price per square meter is not less than 4 million dinars, and therefore its value is estimated at two trillion and seven hundred billion dinars, and it has been neglected since 2003 with an annual loss estimated at (100) billion dinars." This is a waste of public money."

    While the researcher in political and economic affairs, Nabil Jabbar Al-Ali, ruled out that "the Iraqi governments will revitalize the central markets according to their old form," he added in his speech to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that these markets were marketing centers for local products, especially the products that Produced by ministries or the governmental public sector, such as government carpets, government clothes, leather factories, and electrical appliances that were manufactured in Diyala through electric light industry companies,” he said, noting that “these industries are almost halted, disabled, or unable to sell their products now.”
    He stated, "The state's ideas tend to remodel the central markets for investment, and many of them have been offered for investment, and contracts have been signed by some of the central markets."
    He pointed out, "There are investment companies that withdrew from several decades, and some of them started working, such as the Mansour Central Market," stressing "the importance of moving towards investing in real estate, not returning the old idea to central markets."

    Investment contracts, 
    for his part, said the spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, Muhammad Hanoun, that "the General Company for Central Markets performs a very large activity, and has central market projects, including Al-Mansour Central Market, which has achieved very large completion rates, in addition to the company's board of directors signing investment contracts for the markets in Multiple provinces.
    He continued, "What the central markets are currently suffering from are the contracts that were signed for previous years with Emirati companies, as these companies did not put a single room in the project, and therefore the ministry was forced to cancel the contracts of 5 market projects in Baghdad."
    He pointed out that "there are investment contracts with solid companies and there are advertisements that exist. Any Iraqi investor can contact the company's management to verify the existing offers," expressing the ministry's desire to have investments from foreign companies in order to turn those markets into modern malls.
