Oil files a lawsuit against private gas stations for causing "chaos"
Shafaq News/ The Director General of the Petroleum Products Company, Hussein Talib Abboud, announced on Wednesday that lawsuits have been filed against the civil filling stations that declared a strike.
Abboud said in a video statement on the sidelines of his visit to the government-owned Bayaa filling station, followed by Shafak News Agency, that "the issue of the fuel crisis came as a result of the agents of the private filling stations closing their stations, and this is against the law," adding that "the Oil Products Company has filed lawsuits against all those who By closing the station and causing harm to the citizen.”
He continued, "We will severely hold anyone who caused chaos and closed the stations," noting that "the government stations are working 24 hours a day to address the crisis." He explained that "the closure of the filling stations came in protest against the decision to raise prices and differences," noting that "the agent of the station is linked to a contract with the Oil Products Company and he must abide by it."
Today, Wednesday, the Iraqi provinces woke up to a major fuel crisis as a result of the civil stations' strike following a decision by the Federal Oil Ministry.
A local source told Shafak News Agency, "Some of the civil fuel stations in the capital, Baghdad and the rest of the provinces witnessed complete closure, and others are witnessing great momentum," noting that "there are long queues in front of government fuel stations as a result of the civil stations' strike."
The source attributed the reason for the strike to the fact that “the Ministry of Oil raised its prices on the private stations and imposed new conditions,” noting that “the owners of the private stations refrained from working under the new conditions and proceeded to strike and the pressure is now on government stations.”
It is scheduled to be held tomorrow, Thursday, a parliamentary-governmental meeting in the Iraqi parliament building, bringing together the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hakim Al-Zamili, the Minister of Oil and the advanced cadre of the ministry to discuss the fuel crisis, according to what a parliamentary source told Shafaq News Agency.
