Today, Saturday, MP Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani criticized the confusion and insistence on harming the local product in the decisions to lift the ban on the import of some materials under the pretext of addressing the rise in global prices as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Al-Sudani explained, in a statement received by the news agency, that "we understand the lifting of the ban on some materials, especially basic commodities such as (oil, rice, sugar and wheat) to curb the rise in their prices globally and compensate for the shortfall in their local production."But we do not understand the lifting of the import ban on some materials that are available locally and are stable in price, while others are not essential, such as (drinks, juices and gypsum), because everyone knows that opening the import of these materials will harm the local product and thus harm the industry that is waiting to provide more support and protection for its product, stressing that the decision of the device The Central Standardization and Quality Control in the Ministry of Planning, which allowed the import of many unimportant materials, of which we have local sufficiency, represents a face of confusion and government insistence on hitting the local product and the lack of awareness of the consequences of that economically, and the decisions will increase local economic problems and their negative impact on the labor market already affected by As a result of the economic crisis due to the delay in approving the budget as a result of the political blockage in delaying the formation of the government.”
He stressed, "We fear that the corrupt will turn around and exploit the crisis of high prices and push towards issuing decisions that encourage open import at the expense of the required support for the national product."
Al-Sudani called on the government to reconsider its decisions harmful to the local product, pointing to the need to search for ways to support industry, agriculture and the local product instead of looking for the courtesy of countries and beneficiaries at the expense of the citizen and the economy.
