The Ministry of Construction and Housing counted, on Saturday, road and bridge projects completed during the current government, while revealing the implementation stages of two of the capital's entrances, as well as the Baghdad-Kirkuk road, with a length of more than 400 km.
The Director General of the Planning and Follow-up Department at the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities, Samir Ibrahim, told the official news agency, "The completed road and bridge projects from the age of the current government, starting from its commencement in May 2020, were represented by (45) projects, including 24 roads, two of which are new construction." With a length of 96 km and 21 bridges, 10 of which are reconstruction, 9 are rehabilitation and 2 are new.
He added, "In the same period, 578 kilometers of roads were maintained and rehabilitated, while the number of projects under construction is 99, including the rehabilitation and development of the Baghdad-Kirkuk road, with two lanes. It is a major hub for the loads coming from the Kurdistan region and Turkey towards the central and southern governorates, where it has suffered great damage as a result of the loads in the recent period.
Speaking through the Baghdad - Kirkuk road, he continued, "The Ministry of Housing and Construction decided to add reinforced materials that raise the efficiency of the final surface asphalt layers, increase their hardness and give the road durability," noting that "there are four sections under implementation, and within a year and a half, the entire road from Baghdad to Kirkuk will be completed." With regard to the entrances to Baghdad, he explained, "The entrances have been distributed between the ministry, the Municipality of Baghdad and the governorate. Among our powers are the implementation of two entrances, Baghdad - Kut, and Baghdad - Baquba Al-Jadeed, and it is currently under implementation and in advanced stages of completion."
Ibrahim pointed out that "the ministry is also implementing the Dora-Yusufiya road, which is one of the important projects and the idea of its implementation extends for twenty years, and work has been resumed during the era of the current government and has reached advanced stages with the support of the Prime Minister and the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers to overcome all the problems and obstacles of the project, as it reached to The completion rate is 73%.
Ibrahim indicated that "the ministry has among the road and bridge projects under implementation, the Al-Kuriat Bridge, which connects Al-Kuraiyat and Al-Kadhimiya, which is a pedestrian bridge and work is underway on it. In less than a year, the project will be completed and it is to serve the visitors of Imam Al-Kadhim, peace be upon him."
He added, "The ministry is also working on the implementation of the second corridor road at the pace of Fajr-al-Badir, which starts from the Iranian border and connects Maysan with Dhi Qar and Diwaniyah and serves the movement of visitors from outside Iraq." Ended 29/R77
