Shafaq News/ The official of the "Kurdistan Lessors Union" in Sulaymaniyah, Burhan Qardaghi, announced on Saturday that the housing crisis in the region is still present due to the delay in the payment of salaries of employees and retirees.
Qardaghi told Shafaq News Agency, "The tenants in Sulaymaniyah in particular, and the Kurdistan Region in general, are living in a miserable situation due to the salary crisis, which directly cast a shadow over them."
He added that "the absence of effective government plans for the housing crisis and the easing of burdens on tenants added an additional burden on the shoulders of the citizen in Sulaymaniyah."
Qardaghi pointed out that "230 thousand housing units were established in Kurdistan, but they only dealt with 10% of the housing crisis in the region due to the delay in the payment of salaries."
And he indicated that the "Kurdistan Landlords" union - which includes owners of rental properties - presented several proposals to the government to establish low-cost housing units whose monthly installments do not exceed $67 and with very high specifications, "but the routine impeded the implementation of these projects, which we expected would address the crisis by 80%." .
Regarding the consequences of this problem on the citizens of Sulaymaniyah, Qaradaghi stressed that "dozens of cases of marital separation and domestic violence were recorded because the head of the family was unable to pay the wages of the house in which he and his family lived, in addition to many crimes."
The employees and retirees in the Kurdistan Region suffer from the delay in the payment of their monthly salaries for long periods, sometimes up to a year.
