Al-Abadi to Rudaw: If the political parties reach a dead end, the elections must be repeated

The head of the victory coalition, Haider al-Abadi, stressed the need for the blocs to agree to resolve the current political crisis in the country, and that the citizen's interest should be in the first degree, noting that the continuation of the blockage necessitates the re-election of the country.

Al-Abadi said, on Wednesday (May 11, 2022), to the Rudaw Media Network that it is possible to achieve consensus between the political forces and return Iraq to the right track by "gathering them on a political document to agree on."
He added that the priority is to provide services in the country, and secure job opportunities, and that the interest of the citizen should be at the beginning.
In the context, Al-Abadi spoke about political alliances, saying: “There are political alliances at the present time that are not in the light of agreed political programs that are only to achieve the majority in numbers, to seize the state, and this is not a way to rule the country. The majority parties in Europe are a party with a vision and direction One and a program that it implements to serve the people.”
The head of the victory coalition stressed the need for the blocs to concede to achieve understanding among them, with the need for their interests to be in the third degree after the homeland and the citizen.
And about the period specified for the continuation of Al-Kazemi’s government, he said, “The constitution does not specify a period, but according to logic, if they reach a dead end, the elections must be repeated, but will citizens participate in large numbers?”
Iraq suffers from a political blockage following the early October 2021 elections, as the country is still without a government and the adoption of a budget to run its affairs and manage its affairs.
It is noteworthy that the blocking third in the House of Representatives (the coordination framework, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and some independents) prevented the election of a president.
Following the deadline of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, for the coordination framework to form the government, which the latter did not succeed in, al-Sadr called on all independent representatives to join the largest bloc to form an independent government within 15 days.
The head of the Sadrist Parliamentary Bloc, Hassan al-Adhari, confirmed, on Monday (May 9, 2022), that the response came from some independents by rejecting al-Sadr's initiative, noting that their alliance "is proceeding with reform."
Al-Adari said in a tweet, "After we proved that we are not committed to power and gave a golden opportunity to independents to form a government and prime minister, the response came from some of them with refusal."
He pointed out that his bloc is proceeding with "reform," adding: "Our political struggle is nothing but a struggle for reform, not for the sake of sharing the spoils of power."
Al-Adari considered that “one of the most important signs of reform” is their “incessant demand to form a national majority government.”
The Sadrist bloc had previously announced that the Alliance for the People (Extension Movement, New Generation) announced its support for any independent party that forms the government according to several conditions, without participating in it.
In a press conference attended by the Rudaw Media Network on Monday (May 9, 2022), the coalition stipulated that the candidate who adopts the formation of the government must be Iraqis and not dual nationals, adding that he present a realistic government program that meets the requirements of the Iraqi people.
Among the conditions of the alliance is also that the candidate and his prospective government not be among the participants in the parties in power, according to the press conference, which indicated that all political blocs and independent representatives must pledge not to interfere and impose wills in the formation of the government and its decisions.
