    Today, Tuesday (April 30, 2024), the Minister of Commerce, Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairi, called on the regional government to coordinate and reach an understanding with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture regarding the cultivated areas, agricultural yields, and the size of the quantities expected to be marketed for the wheat crop, in proportion to the size of the region’s storage capacities.
    Al-Ghurairi’s media office stated in a statement received by “Baghdad Today” that “Minister of Commerce, Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairi, discussed with the Minister of Trade and Industry, Kamal Muslim Saeed, and the Minister of Commerce, Bikard Talabani in the Kurdistan Regional Government, and the delegation accompanying them, mechanisms for joint work on preparations for the marketing season of the local wheat crop and the expected quantities.” Preparing warehouses and storage capacity.
    The minister stressed, according to the statement, “cooperation and support in everything that serves the farmers of the region, similar to the farmers of the rest of the country’s governorates, and according to the standards of equality and advancement, in cooperation and support with the Ministries of Trade and Agriculture in the region to provide the best services and support.”
    Al-Ghurairi called on the region’s delegation to “the necessity of coordination and understanding with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture regarding the cultivated areas, agricultural yields, and the size of the quantities expected to be marketed, in a manner commensurate with the size of the region’s storage capacities, while working at the same time to expand the storage capacities of the banks as reserve capacities in anticipation of any emergency in this regard and to avoid what happened in The previous season indicated that the quantities that were marketed last year were smaller than expected and caused the Federal Ministry of Trade to gain momentum in its sites in the governorates of Mosul and Kirkuk due to the marketing of quantities from the region.
    Al-Ghurairi pointed out that, "Since assuming the duties of the Ministry of Commerce, we have been seeking to pay the dues of the region's farmers for the years 2014, 2015, and 2016, which were delivered in full, and our goal is to work with standards of equality and justice with all Iraqi provinces."
    For her part, the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources said: “We appreciate the voice of the Federal Ministry of Trade and its support in last year’s season,” and she added: “This year we worked in a scientific, technical and precise manner, and we planted large areas of wheat, and our production of the crop was at high levels, in addition to working with... The Federal Ministry of Agriculture formed a technical advisory committee and conducted an aerial survey of agricultural areas in the region for wheat cultivation.
    The statement explained, "The two sides agreed to continue cooperation and support for the success of the marketing season, which is considered the most important season in the country's history as a result of government support in this aspect."
