Iran opposes possible Turkish military action on the Syrian-Iraqi border
Shafaq News/ The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced, on Saturday, that it opposes Turkey's possible military action on the Syrian-Iraqi borders, calling on Ankara to address problems with its opponents through dialogue and respect international agreements with its neighboring countries.
This came in response to a question directed to the ministry's spokesman, Saeed Khatibzadeh, about possible Turkish military action on the Syrian-Iraqi border, according to Iranian media.
Khatibzadeh said that Iran opposes any military action and resorting to force in the territories of other countries in order to resolve existing disputes, and considers this a violation of the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of these countries, and that would further complicate and worsen the situation.
He added that, "Within understanding Turkey's security concerns, it considers that the only way to address these concerns is through dialogue, respecting bilateral agreements with its neighbors, as well as the agreements reached within the framework of the Astana process, including respect for the territorial integrity and national sovereignty in Syria and adherence to the principle of Not using force."
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman added, "The experience of recent years has shown that military action in other countries not only helps in settling existing problems, but will also leave worrying humanitarian consequences and will further complicate the situation in the region."
