, Minister of Planning Khaled Battal Al-Najm announced, on Monday, that the date for implementing the general population and housing census will be in the last quarter of next year 2023 electronically and using internationally approved statistical standards.
This came during the minister’s presidency of the meeting of the Supreme Census Authority, which was held at the Ministry of Planning, and was attended by Representative Muhammad Al-Baldawi, representing the House of Representatives, the head of the Statistics Authority in the Kurdistan Region, Sirwan Muhammad Mohi, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund = Mahdi Al-Alaq, and representatives of ministries and relevant authorities , in addition to the head of the operations room, Diaa Awad, and the executive director general of the census, Samir Khudhair Hadi.
The minister added that the decision to set a date for the census comes in light of the great importance of this national project, especially after half a century has passed in which Iraq has not witnessed a general population census, indicating that the results of this census will contribute to addressing many problems, foremost of which is the fair distribution of wealth among provinces.
The minister pointed out that the ministry has completed the electronic form for the census, after presenting it to all ministries and relevant authorities, indicating that there is a national consensus on the necessity of implementing the census, and therefore one of the duties of the Minister of Planning is to announce the date, according to the powers granted to him.
He continued, "The financial aspect of the census has been fully secured after allocating 120 billion dinars within the investment budget," revealing that "the staff of the Central Statistics Agency were able to prepare electronic programs that will be adopted in the implementation of the census, after being examined by a specialized and discreet international company. ".
The meeting of the Supreme Census Authority witnessed the discussion of many files, including the approval of the census form, as well as setting the initial date for its implementation in the last quarter of next year.
