The Ministry of Planning promised to announce the preliminary results of the General Population and Housing Census 24 hours after the completion of the procedures, indicating that it had contracted with a well-known international consulting company to implement it.
Ministry spokesman Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi told Al-Sabah: “Preparations are continuing to implement the census in November of this year,” stressing that “a contract has been contracted with an international consulting company that began its work several weeks ago at the Statistics and Geographic Information Systems Authority.”
Al-Hindawi added, “This leading and well-known company has carried out dozens of censuses in countries including China, which has a population of more than 1.4 billion people,” attributing the reason for contracting with the company to “the keenness to implement the census in accordance with the latest developments the world has reached in this field.” “The results appear at a high level of accuracy, reliability and speed.”
Al-Hindawi explained that “the census mechanisms are implemented by Iraqi personnel who have been trained over the past years to complete this national procedure,” noting that “the initial results will appear 24 hours after it is conducted, while the detailed and complete final results will appear within two or three months.”
Economist Alaa Al-Fahd stressed that the general census of population and housing is a very urgent necessity, considering it a guarantee of correct planning according to accurate indicators based on the census itself.
Al-Fahd added in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that “contracting with international companies and implementing modern systems contribute to the accuracy of the data to a fundamental degree and accelerate achievement,” indicating that “the Ministry has accumulated extensive experience in this field after postponing the census more than once, in addition to the presence of advance preparations.” and international experience in this field.”
Al-Fahd said that the relevant circles “trust the procedures of the Statistics and Geographic Systems Authority, in addition to the application of modern census systems, based on which indicators will be determined, in addition to the population number, the level of the workforce qualified to enter the labor market, and other data.”
He warned that "the accuracy of the results and statistics is more necessary than the speed of their appearance, as in light of them, the focus will be on remote and rural areas with services and projects, which contributes to the preparation of development plans," explaining that "no country in the world can plan unless it has an accurate database and statistics." It includes all the indicators on which plans depend, especially strategic planning based on accurate and correct data that represent the indicators, in addition to its great benefit to researchers, institutions, and private sector companies.”
