, Interior Ministry spokesman, Major General Khaled Al-Muhanna, revealed, on Monday, strict penalties for anyone who practices the phenomenon of selling children.
In an exclusive interview with Mawazine News Agency, Al-Muhanna said that the issue of selling children falls under the human trafficking law, as police forces and detachments arrested a group of people on these charges.
He added that the emergence of this phenomenon from time to time, stressing that it became clear after investigations that these offers are not serious and the aim is to win people's hearts for help and is nothing more than an attempt to beg.
A few days ago, the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency announced that it had thwarted the sale of a child after his arrest by a woman-led human trafficking gang in Najaf Governorate.
And the intelligence agency stated in a statement, of which Mawazine News received a copy, that its detachments were able to arrest a gang accused of human trafficking led by a woman near Najaf Airport, while trying to sell a two-month-old child for a sum of 15 million Iraqi dinars (10 thousands of US dollars).
And she confirmed that "the woman was dealt with and handed over to the concerned authorities and the necessary measures were taken to complete the investigation papers."
